Abo Iashagshvili is an author who will be featured as part of this year’s Frankfurter Buchmesse, whose main focus will be on Georgia. He studied in Munich and Berlin, among other places, and in addition to his literary work, is also a mountain guide in Georgia. He has written three novels and a number of short stories that have been published in Georgian. His second novel, Royal Mary, which won the SABA, the most prestigious Georgian award for literature, is now available as the first translation of his work. It tells the tale of a series of sinister yet scurrilous murders in Tiflis. Among the victims: a German named Grimmelshausen and an artist dressed in women’s clothing. And what happened to Royal Mary, and what of her stable boy? Wolfgang Sandfuchs will be discussing the novel with Abo Iashgashvili. Nils Aulike will read passages from the German text.
