Nino Haratischwili achieved international fame with her novel "Das achte Leben (Für Brilka)", which was awarded numerous prizes. Now her new novel is available, which she will present this evening.
Alexander Orlov, a Russian oligarch and called "The General" by everyone, has begun a new life in Berlin. But the memories of his deployment in the First Chechen War do not let him go. The darkest is the one on the cruelest of nights, after which nothing remained of the young Chechen Nura but a great unrepented guilt. The time has come for the settlement.
In her new novel Nino Haratischwili traces the abysses that have opened up between the ruins of the crumbling Soviet empire. »Die Katze und der General« is a tense, psychologically profound novel about the war in the countries and in the heads, about the longing for peace and redemption. As in a magic cube, the fates of the figures turn into each other, around a hidden axis of love and guilt. They are all part of a deadly game in which they collide with the force of a classic tragedy.
