February 1921 … The Red Army has occupied Georgian Democratic Republic. The Government has already fled the capital. The last train is about to leave from Tbilisi … Everybody wants to escape. Politicians, representatives of political parties, people from different walks of life and of various social strata are trying to get on the train ignorant of where they are going or what awaits them.
In the train carriage they continuously argue and blame each other. There is a lot of idiosyncrasy of opinions, pain, truth, but nonetheless a unity in love to their country and the belief that they will return…
The feeling of sadness spawned by unwillingness to leave their motherland overwhelms these people. At the backdrop of inner personal dramatism of the characters the leitmotif of the play is: “We will return”.
